The challenge
Plate waste is easy to express as a percentage but harder for workplace customers to understand in practical terms. Our client needed a quick way to help customers explore how small amounts of waste per meal accumulate across a workforce over time.
What we delivered
- Built an interactive Plate Waste Calculator for laboratory, office and manufacturing workplaces.
- Let users enter the number of employees using their food facilities, meals consumed per employee each week and estimated food wasted per meal.
- Calculated projected food waste over 6, 12 or 24 months, allowing users to compare the effect over time.
- Translated kilograms of waste into equivalent meals and weeks the same food could have nourished the workforce.
- Presented a contextual message alongside the results and a call to explore our client’s food-waste guidance.
Business value
Customers can see the scale of plate waste in terms that relate to their own workplace, rather than a generic industry statistic. The results give our client a concrete starting point for conversations about reducing waste and improving food-service efficiency. The short, self-service experience can engage prospects before a deeper discussion.
